Maxi Cosi makes pretty car seats… in the words of weeSpring parents, they’re sleek and stylish, and definitely the ones you’ll gravitate toward in the store if you’re trying to avoid baby-stuff-overload. Downside: we’ve heard installation can be more than tricky… the base won’t install securely in the majority of cars. With a 5 pound start and 22 pound limit, it also doesn’t fit preemies or older infants. Our friends at The Car Seat Lady suggest the Cybex Aton 2 as an alternative.

While the Mico (but not the Mico AP or Nxt) can work well in taxis and rental cars, the base on all does not install securely (with LATCH or seatbelt) in many vehicles, in part because it doesn’t have a seat belt locking device on the base. It’s limited weight range (5 lbs to 22 lbs) means it isn’t great for preemies or big babies, and the straps get uneven and twist more than we see in other seats. Don't be confused - this seat is not micro... it takes up as much room in the car as seats that fit much bigger babies. Apr 09, 2014
