  • Q: How old does a baby need to be for the baby set? I read 6 months, but if they are sitting with assistance (pillows behind their back), is that sufficient? Thanks!

asked by Secretly Expecting - Nov 20, 2016

  • I love this seat! Bought it twice- once for son and once for daughter. They were probably about 6-7 months.

  • We were using the baby set when we started feeding him, a little before 5 months. It's pretty secure about holding the babies in. You can probably use a little pillow if your baby needs a little assistance. Just need to be able to hold up their head.

  • Yes, you need the baby inset

    Verena S. - Nov 21, 2016

  • Yes, you just need to get the baby inset, which is sold separately.

    Verena S. - Nov 21, 2016

  • It's best if your child is sitting on their own because ideally you don't want them leaning to the side with food in their mouth.

  • We bought this for my daughter when she was about 12-13 months and she was fine. My younger one is 9 months and is still in more traditional high chair because I wouldn't trust her in this without the baby inset. Even though she sits on her own, if I turn my back and she wants other food or is down, she's quick to arch hr back, etc and it would make me too nervous. I wish we had the inset though!

  • We used a Fisher Price Space Saver high chair until both my girls were about 9 months when they were strong enough to sit up unassisted and then we used the baby inset until about 1 1/2 - 2 years old.

  • We started using this with the baby set at 5 months old.

    Allison W. - Nov 21, 2016

  • We started using this chair with the baby seat at about 5 months.

    Lauren T. - Nov 21, 2016

  • We put my son in the chair around five months just to be social with us at the table (he was not yet eating solids). Since he wasn't sitting on his own, he would naturally recline a bit in the chair.

  • I think to use the baby set, the baby should sit up without assistance. I used bumbo seat until that point.

    Carly F. - Nov 24, 2016

  • Baby should ideally be sitting up with out assistance before sitting in the chair (even with the the baby set). Although both my kids were introduced to solids around 6 months, neither of them really showed much interest until they were closer to 8 months. Food before 1 is just for fun! Most nutrients will come from milk/formula until about a year anyway ????

  • Q: Has anyone had any problems with this high chair tipping over?

    asked by Kristin M. - Mar 24, 2014

  • It comes with these plastic strips you can attach to the base to make it harder to tip, so while my toddler has tried, he hadn't succeeded.

    Allyson D. - Mar 24, 2014

  • We have never had a tipping problem - probably because the base is so large. But the bottom board has become loose.

    Sara L. - Mar 24, 2014

  • Ours has never tipped, although my kids have also tried many times! Also, in reference to Sara, you can tighten the screws on the sides if the boards become loose. We have two Tripp Trapps and they have lasted 4 and 5 years, and are still in pretty great shape!

    Mary Jacqueline A. - Mar 24, 2014

  • My 18 month old pushes herself back from the table every time she finishes eating and has yet to tip herself. It is surprisingly sturdy!
